Already 5 weeks have gone by since my last letter, looking at my artistic production you wouldn’t think so 😅. So I’m inviting you once more to join me on a journey of creating an illustration that doesn’t exist yet :) One of those weeks was spent on a trip to Barcelona, and I’ve brought back some photos full of magical light and colours to share with you.
Art in May: The hares, a creation chronicle
Ideation / composition search sketches – initially with crows (or even a fox) :)

Inspired by the hares that dart about or hide around my home, I’m switching animals :) This one only exists in this photo now, it’s been erased since!

Going with this idea, or maybe it’s a random mix of scattered ideas; I am not convinced.

Drawing hares from photo reference (plus an encounter between a pony and a chicken, it seems? 😅️)

Inspired by my dearest’s interest in UFOs (in particular the videos that have just been “disclosed” and published by the US administration), I add a comet to my composition. That gives me ideas for the colour palette. I think I’m onto something! I’m not too convinced by the sketch (especially the character), but I quite like the hares (inspired by my photos from last summer, and my live observations :)).

Stay tuned for further developments!
From my camera roll: Magical light, Sagrada Família, Barcelona
The stained-glass windows bathe the milky stone in pastel colours, blue-green to the east, orange-pink to the west. The tree-like columns stretch their branches towards blossoms with strangely pointy petals.

Inspiration: Reflections, photos by Marie-Alice Harel
Marie-Alice is a French illustrator and creator of artistic books, living in Scotland. Being fascinated by reflections in water myself (particularly of trees and plants), I instantly fell in love with these photos that she has shared over the years on her Instagram.

Showing the reflection rather than the object itself – surely nothing new, but simply fascinating, and I think particularly well designed in this case!
