…a bit late due to holidays :) Before that I was at the congress for children’s book illustration, Bunte Hunte: a variety of talks, all interesting, exhibitions, and many conversations :) This year I went with the camper-van, and the streets of Buxtehude were lively with the “old town festival”! What else?
Art in June: in my sketchbook…
A small, spontaneous sketch of Loukoum, the main character in my comic (due to be published in autumn 2027!), which I quite like :)

And you might remember that in my February letter I mentioned my current enthusiasm for embroidery (particularly sashiko), used for mending, reinforcing and customising clothes? Since then, I’ve started on my own projects! I’ve done sketches like the ones filling the rest of the above sketchbook spread, and also actually embroidered – on linen trousers :)
One is finished (well, kind of… the fabric is wearing out again and could already do with some extra reinforcement…), featuring traditional geometric repeating patterns…

…the other is a work in progress, where I’m trying my hand at ‘freestyle’, inspired by Gabriela Martínez Ortiz, a Mexican artist, her project Ofelia & Antelmo – and her course on Domestika. I think it’s working out quite well!

From my camera roll: summer feelings
Dramatic skies! – at 5 o’clock in the morning out of the bathroom’s window, and in Buxtehude with a Ferris wheel at dusk

Shadows of leaves on a tree trunk; a bright green leaf with striking marbling, spotted on a hike; an oak trunk emerging from the greenery, with elderflowers as highlights

Strawberry picking 😊🍓; an elegantly designed bathroom at campsite Gräßelmühle!; a dragonfly by the Sasbach stream

Lovely things: ceramic bowls by Ursula Eiche-Gräßel
Also at the Gräßelmühle campsite, I found these ceramic bowls created by the owner, Ursula Gräßel! In the large mug (the perfect size for my tea!), I’m particularly fascinated by the random colour blot that partially runs over the delicate floral stamp, as well as by the lively patterns – repeating but irregular – created by the lines and dots.

Only afterwards did I find out that Ursula is also the designer of the campsite’s website – as well as other nice things – and also the photographer behind the bright, peaceful images that feature on the site. I’m a big fan! 😊
That’s it for this month!
