I ran! Not very far, but after my accident, and until quite recently, I really was not sure whether I would ever be able to run again.

Art in July: “Urban sketching”
For the first time I joined the Urban Sketchers Bremen group! This time it was in the Findorff area. Many chose to sketch a steam locomotive that’s on show in this small park, but I just couldn’t resist the vibrant green of these parasols 😁.
Inspiration: Watercolour painting by an “urban sketcher”
After drawing (1 hour to 1 and a half), we meet up in a café to share what we’ve made. There were quite a few of us, about twenty – and that was during the holidays!
Rather than staying around the original meeting point, one of the participants (I don’t know his name, but I hope to find out at a future session, in which case I’ll add it here…) had headed over to the café (the Port Piet). There he chose to paint a ‘Torfkahn’, a flat-bottomed boat once used to transport peat between the villages where it was extracted, and Bremen where it was sold for heating.
I love the colours, as well as the way the water is rendered, with brushstrokes that are sometimes sharply defined and sometimes blend into one another with these organic, flowing patterns.
I’ve read that these “flowers”, sometimes deprecatingly referred to as “cauliflowers” 😅️, are considered a “mistake” by some watercolourists. Well, I suppose in some cases they’re not appropriate (or are there such cases?), but personally I’m fascinated by the patterns and textures they create!
From my camera roll: Weeds and other countryside observations
In our garden we try to get rid of thistles, but on the wayside they’re beautiful (a bee seems to like them too). I wouldn’t mind cornflowers with their stunnigly intense blue-violet colour (I think? or do they take over everything?), but I guess the farmer who’s got them growing in his wheat field would be of another opinion…
Also, a stand of majestic trees, lush vegetation, and a blackbird in our meadow after the mowing!
